Family Man Arrested in 10 Slayings
Police in Kansas say he is the sadistic BTK serial killer who taunted Wichita for 30 years.February 27, 2005
WICHITA, Kan. — He called himself a monster, but in 31 years of hunting the serial killer known as BTK, Wichita police made it clear they were searching for a man who appeared in every way ordinary. On Saturday, they announced they finally had caught him.
Dennis Rader, 59, a church-going family man, a Cub Scout leader, a dog-catcher for the trim suburb of Park City, is in custody on suspicion of torturing and killing seven women, one man and two children from 1974 to 1991 — including two victims linked only this week to BTK.
Authorities would not discuss the specifics of their investigation into BTK. (The "code word" the killer used to describe himself described his method: bind, torture, kill). But they have compared Rader's DNA with the semen that BTK left at several crime scenes.
They said they were confident that Rader was the man who terrorized this industrial city for decades, taunting detectives with poems, word puzzles and boastful letters — including one in which he declared that there was "no help, no cure" for his sadism, "except death or being caught and put away."
"Bottom line: BTK is arrested," Wichita Police Chief Norman Williams said at a news conference Saturday morning. "Doggone it, we did it."
Williams was hailed with a standing ovation. Some members of the victims' families slumped in their chairs, sobbing.
And now, the right wing spin: THE DEATH PENALTY WORKS!
If convicted, Rader would not face the death penalty because all the killings linked to him took place before Kansas introduced capital punishment in 1994.
How about this as a deterrent: Liberals' inherent respect for humanity on many levels? Because it sure seems that God-fearin' heartlanders have a real problem keeping women and children around them unmolested. Or even alive...

I liked what Bill Maher said on his show this week, "Hollywood isn't going to turn your daughter into a nymphomaniac drug addict. I'll do that by myself."

This is always the way. Remember, John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy were both bright stars in local politics. Gary Treadway, the Green River Killer, was a suburban family man. Arthur Shawcross had to kill many prostitutes before his double life was exposed; he was so innocuous that even given almost overwhelming evidence against him, no one believed he was capable of the crime. There's always Jeffrey R. MacDonald, who slaughtered his pregnant wife and two baby daughters, and who just so happened to be a Green Beret Army doctor who had volunteered for deployment to Vietnam six months before the murders.
Establishment types are usually the most perverted, evil fucks. Sure, we hippie liberals must always fight the Manson stereotype, but even a cursory glance in the annals of American crime reveals that these so-called "family men" are usually the culprits in our most heinous crimes. Church, family, wife, Bible, suburbia...none of it does anything to silence the monster within.

One more thing...they just said on Dateline NBC that there is credible evidence that this sick fuck photographed himself committing the murders, along with tape-recording their screams, cries of anguish, and pleadings.
A good family man. A good Christian. He murdered a young mother within earshot of her three terrified children. How's THAT for family values?

I work the reference desk in a big-city library. A couple of years ago a little old lady--one of our regulars--called to get the address of the prison in Houston where the murderers of James Byrd (the black guy dragged to death behind a truck in Jasper, Texas) were being kept. She wanted to write to them about how she knew they never would have done such a terrible thing if they hadn't been taught that awful evolution in school.
Yeah. That had to be it.

I know people may disagree but I don't think you can really tie what this guy did with conservative christianity. There are plenty of reasons to dislike what conservatives do in Jesus's name but I don't think this is one of them. I think this is simpilly a case of a mentally ill person using a "normal" life to cover up what he was really doing.

We're saying it seems to be more cultural than not lately. Most of the reports of child molestation, crimes against women and the like come from profiles like this. And this guy was too cold and calculating to just write it off as "mentally ill." He had a problem, but these problems seem to fit a profile these days...

Of course, the last two sets of multiple killers caught in Wichita were black Democrats. But no one made a point of it.

Spanky...care to tell us where you got that info (a link maybe) or are you just throwing that out there? We just like seeing a little proof of that.

Notwistanding the unsubstantiated claims made by Spanky; have you noticed how heinous the crimes are from the pregnant woman murdering, gay bashing, bible beating, jaysus loving RED states? I think they need to take a look at their "moral values."
