Bush Knew
This is devastating (C&L story & video). The AP has obtained the tapes proving that:
- FEMA knew about the potential of Katrina's destruction well ahead of time.
- Bush was told about that potential.
- Bush delivered a message to the Gulf Coast offering help for the oncoming storm.
- Federal officials warned the White House of possible levee breaches.
The rest is history. Bush stayed on vacation, ate cake with John McCain in Phoenix and fake-played a guitar in San Diego.
(Here's a wacky bit of trivia we discovered while researching this - Bush's photo essays don't list beyond September 2005. You can only go as far back as when he finally decided to give some attention to the hurricane destruction. FAScinating.)
Bottom line: Bush knew. Bush was warned. The entire White House infrastructure knew.
And Bush stayed on vacation.
Months earlier, Bush interrupted his vacation to make a speech in Washington about Terri Schiavo. At the end of August, 2005, Bush did NOTHING as disaster struck a major American city...except pose with cakes and guitars.
Holy. Shit.
Absolutely chilling. Do NOT trust these people with your security. They're traitors, slackers and crackheads in any and every sense of the words.

I have kept quiet on this next comment, and thought that it was lunacy for many to keep calling for this action, but out of respect for the 1000s dead from Katrina and the (waves) tides that crashed NO from the levees, it is time:
HIGH CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS. IMPEACH. IMPEACH. IMPEACH.

Impeach.

Impeach? It'll never happen while they control all the branches of government. They'll never be held accountable for anything, especially while the democrats SLEEP on and on and on. Where's the loud and organized response to the myriad of offenses? Even if the dems in congress can't get anything done they shouldn't be missing in action. What a sham.

At this point they could march the Northern Command (our new-to-come government) into, say, Minneapolis, set the place on fire with flame throwers, march out, and there'd be not a yawn.
I'm quite serious. With everything else that's passed by with hardly a nudge - without even an excoriation - I truly expect that now they could do ANYTHING and congress would yawn.

Well, after the Port fiasco broke, Bush's Poll numbers hit 34%. The Rethugs are completely petrified at the threat of terrorism. Let's see how much the truth about Katrina affects the Polls in a few days. It'll be a very interesting revelation on the mindset of this country.

About time to raise the color terror alert system, no?

They are so stupid and insolated, they're liable to do just that and think we'll buy it.

Impeach. Yes.
Rhoda (and everyone else here), have you written your Senators and Representative to support HR 635, HR 636, and HR 637, legislation introduced by Rep. Conyers to censure Bush and Cheney and what could ultimately lead to impeachment proceedings?
If not, why not? If yes, have you done it repeatedly? Email and snail mail? Phone calls? Asked your friends to write their Reps and Senators? This is no time for lazy citizenship. It's up to us to put the heat on and keep it on. Conyers has done a lot for us. Do we have his back or not?
