Here's Where the Quote Began
You've probably received the email about law professor Jamie Raskin responding to GOP State Senator Nancy Jacobs' citing biblical reasons for banning gay marriage. The story from last March is basically true, and the quote is brilliant. We just want to give proper credit for the original quote.
"When I came here, I put my hand on the Bible and swore to uphold the Constitution. I didn't put my hand on the Constitution and swear to uphold the Bible."
-Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-Ill), in a 1997 interview in USA Today Weekend

Excellent quote- really defines what should be the correct relationship between church and state.

Freedom is the distance between wacko religion and state.
