I guess he thinks what Democrats should be doing is calling everyone who lives north of the Mason-Dixon line or outside of a major metropolitan area an ignorant hick and writing them all off. Maybe not spotting the Republicans 200 electoral votes every election wouldn't be sporting.

No. you were correct the first time. Many of those goons live north of the line - as far north as eastern WA state. I went to high school with a few of those boys.

The interesting thing about stereotypes is that they spring forth from natural common links we see in groups of people. We associate bad qualities with those folks that we find objectionable then reduce them to a cartoon. Not all Southern white men are beer swilling racist goons, but enough of them are to give a bit of credence to the stereotype. Besides, these idiots crave the spotlight and never pass up a chance to prove their crass and stupidity. They wear it like a badge.

Personally, I think this is how the dinosaurs died out. They slowly turned 'redneck'. The more stupid a species allows into its culture, the faster it will become fossils frozen in stone.
