Obama Jumps Past the Primaries
While Hillary is hitting up the Hillbillaries to find a computer to donate to HillaryClinton.com, Barack Obama has placed himself fairly and squarely into a direct political battle with George Bush and his twin John McCain. It was Bush who invoked Obama's plan for diplomacy into a slam spoken half a world away.
It's official, folks. Obama's now on the world stage. The primaries are history, and he's going for the big tuna. Let's rock!
UPDATE: Maverick responds!
"It was remarkable to see Barack Obama's hysterical diatribe in response to a speech in which his name wasn't even mentioned. These are serious issues that deserve a serious debate, not the same tired partisan rants we heard today from Senator Obama.
"Senator Obama has pledged to unconditionally meet with Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad -- who pledges to wipe Israel off the map, denies the Holocaust, sponsors terrorists, arms America's enemies in Iraq and pursues nuclear weapons. What would Senator Obama talk about with such a man?
"It would be a wonderful thing if we lived in a world where we don't have enemies. But that is not the world we live in, and until Senator Obama understands that, the American people have every reason to doubt whether he has the strength, judgment and determination to keep us safe."
"Hysterical diatribe"?!? Someone cranked your hearing aid to eleven when you were napping, pal. We have a hysterical diatribe for you: this hysterical diatribe.
UPDATE: Obama responds to Maverick!
Having fun? We sure are. This is worth a few bucks for rapid response.

Now see, here was an opportunity for Obama to win me over. All he had to do was prove he's not another droning, put-you-to-sleep, dry-powder Democrat and go for the jugular by turning a phrase using a few of the following words: "treason," "impeachment," "Prescott Bush." Instead, he turns into John Kerry right before my eyes. Ugh.
I want to be hopeful, I really do, but the audacity . . . it's lacking . . .

Well, keep holding your breath, Pony. There's politics, and there's dumb politics. Dumb politics is giving the other side ammo for the 527s to pounce on you as being "un-American." What you're waiting for would be dumb politics.
Why don't you do a little homework before you spout off? Start here:

While I agree with the desired outcome, I have to ask that we PLEASE not declare the primaries to be history just yet. Let those of us in Oregon harbor the notion that, for the first time in about 40 years, our vote in the presidential primary actually means something. It's just 4 days - then, go ahead and declare all you want.

I've never claimed to be on the side of smart politics. I'm certainly not as smart as the Democrats. Letting Bush have his Iraq Slaughter and voting to dump tons and tons of money into it for 5+ years is smart politics. Refusing to make any effort to stop Bush from handing over the judiciary to corporate interests is smart politics. Taking impeachment "off the table" is smart politics. Refusing to defend the Constitution is smart politics. Keeping their powder dry while the city is sacked is smart politics. Give me dumb politics any day.
Oh, and you can drop the lectures about doing my homework. I'm quite aware of what Obama has said, and I'm more familiar with his record than most members of his personality cult. In fact, I've asked continually for the last year or so about his abysmal Senate record, and rarely do I get anything more than a personal attack, usually a charge of racism or some such bunk.

Looks a hell of a lot better than "abysmal" to me, but I'm not a 100 percenter. You'll hate it no matter what we present.

"hysterical diatribe"
You see, "hysterical" connotes female. Y'know, like Maureen Dowd's been saying.
OTOH when McCain goes nuts and calls Cindy a c#nt in public, he does it in a manly way.
