It certainly is ridiculous and should be the headlines on all newspapers, TV, and blogs. The Republicans should be known for what they are: Mother Haters.
From the Wikipedia entry on Mother's Day:
In the United States, Mother's Day was loosely inspired by the British day and was imported by social activist Julia Ward Howe after the American Civil War. However, it was intended as a call to unite women against war. In 1870, she wrote the Mother's Day Proclamation as a call for peace and disarmament. Howe failed in her attempt to get formal recognition of a Mother's Day for Peace.
The Republicans - got to hand it to them - are standing courageous and united and will continue this procedural nonsense until the "emergency supplemental" is passed. We'll be treated in the days ahead to a greater awareness of exactly what congress does most of the time: diddlysquat. The real work, screwing Americans, happens in the cloak room and out of sight.
Yes, it's time for yet another "emergency" bill to pour more Billions to IRAQ and who the fuck knows where else. Just not here. Not to help Americans - 'ceptin those on the payroll of the maladministration and our friends in Israel.
So hats off to the Republicans. Their action makes Democrats look particularly pathetic: If Democrats had exercised this same level of scroat since allegedly taking control of the House, America might have been spared many horrors.
Same for the Senate. One US Senator, Obama - the great thinker, leader, speaker and advocate for "change" - could bring the whole works to a screeching halt. Instead?
Our government is truly a laughing stock. I'd be laughing if it were not so pathetic.

Doesn't surprise me at all.
