Okay...Just Answer the Mononucleosis Question For Me

Five months? I got what was diagnosed as "advanced mononucleosis" when I was 24, and it knocked me out of commission for three weeks, tops. (But then again, I wasn't pregnant. [Rim shot])

The description of mono at the Lycoming College website corroborates what I see just about everywhere else:

Once a person becomes infected with the virus it can take 3-7 weeks for symptoms to begin. Some people may have no symptoms at all but most typically fatigue, fever, headache, muscle aches, sore throat and enlarged glands are experienced. If, after completing a health history and physical exam, a health care provider suspects mono a blood test will be done to confirm the diagnosis.

Extra rest is highly recommended. Although the worst of the symptoms usually resolve in one to two weeks, it may take several weeks to months to fully recover. In the meantime, students may attend classes as tolerated.

That was one busy family, medically speaking, a few months ago. That's all. Mono sucks, and I'm glad Bristol's fine. But five months?

Comments

Once a person becomes "infected" with the "virus" it can take 3-7 months for physical signs to show. Some people may have no symptoms at all but most typically show fatigue, lower back and feet aches, unusual food cravings, "nesting behaviors", and enlarged "glands" are experienced. If, after completing a health history and physical exam, a health care provider suspects parturiency, a blood test will be done to confirm the diagnosis.

Extra rest is highly recommended. Although the worst of the symptoms usually resolve in eight to nine months, it may only take several weeks to months to fully notice. In the meantime, students may skip classes and lie. Uh... lie down, that is.

Once contracted, the virus remains dormant in B cells for life. It takes about 2 weeks to activate and the symptoms of fatigue can last up to 2 months. The spleen enlarges as the antiviral process progresses, and this dictates caution with sport activities lest it be ruptured.

It must be a myth that once you have symptoms, you're naturally immune. I've had it 3 times.

Mono symptoms, as with many other viral and bacterial diseases, can be activated when the immune system is depressed. Insufficient rest, nutrition, and poor health status makes activation more likely. In affluent homes with plenty of staff, poor nutrition and health status is unlikely, yet getting mono, known as the "kissing disease" as it is spread through saliva inhalation, is relatively easy.

I want the whole giving a speech while amniotic fluid is dripping down her legs question answered.

Then I got Mary pregnant
and man that was all she wrote
And for my nineteenth birthday I got a union card and a wedding coat
We went down to the courthouse
and the judge put it all to rest
No wedding day smiles no walk down the aisle
No flowers no wedding dress

That night we went down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh down to the river we did ride

So.. the religious right is going to go for a candidate whose 17 year old daughter got pregnant out of wedlock?

Family values, uh huh.

This is so over.

Uncle Playground, you so totally cracked me up.
