So Obama's Giving Americans Gas-Saving Tips? MAN THAT SUCKS!
One of his recommendations was to keep your tires properly inflated. So naturally, Rick Davis takes the one sentence and turns it into "Obama's Energy Policy." This from the party that talked you into buying Hummers and to keep spending money like drunken sailors.
That aside, the McCain campaign is now giving away Obama tire pressure gauges for contributions. Okay...it's cute. And it gets Obama's name into more GOPers' hands.
But I like Al's answer: If they're gonna come at Obama with a tire gauge, Obama should bring a tire iron.

Speaking of Hummers, folks who bought big SUV's for their business, got a big tax break. I think that break was still good last year but not positive.

I'm wondering why the Obama campaign has not responded in any way to the ridicule of the McCain campaign on this issue. I would think it would be quite easy to have, at the very least, a surrogate (but not that weasel John Kerry, please God) ridicule the ridicule and point out that all the hoo-hah about a comment about sensible and commonly overlooked methods to save gas shows how low the McCain campaign has sunk when this country is facing such seriously horrendous problems.
Is it that Democratic candidate chickenshititis has completely overtaken the Obama campaign? Wasn't there going to be some kind of rapid response team to deal with this kind of horeseshit?
I suppose, though, it might be possible that the Obama people figure that the McClone campaign is making itself so ridiculous they don't need to say anything. I suppose that might be a point of view, although I vigorously disagree with it. The American voting public doesn't do subtlety.

Saving energy is for whiny, effete liberals! Everyone knows a sound energy policy involves opening up more sources so we can burn through our limited supply faster!
Whoops, did I say "limited"? I don't know what came over me, because EVERYONE KNOWS that there is, in fact, an infinite and inexhaustible supply of readily-accessible oil! Really! The oil fairies fill it up again every night! And anyone who says otherwise hates the troops!

If John McCain honestly believes that properly maintaining your machines does not make them more efficient, then he is a Stupid, Stupid Man and does not belong in public office...
If he doesn't, then I hope all good Republicans go out and drive around all week with 5 lbs of air in their tires to show their support. I know many tire shops that would appreciate the gesture.
Now if we could figure out a way to get them to drain all of the oil out of their engines, the fun would _really_ start.
Unless the faeries will refill their crankcases as well...

This dialogue has been going on since the Carter administration - for those of you who don't remember, there was an uproar over the suggestion that we turn down our thermostats and wear sweaters to save on energy (this whole thing regarding the tire guage is right out of that play book). The Reps don't want to talk about conservation or any solutions that force us to think out of the box. All they can come up with are ways to continue doing what we are doing - and we can see how well that works! Bush, Sr. said that the American way of life "is not negotiable" when we went to war in the Gulf last time. I, for one, think that our crumbling infrastructure, corroding schools, bankrupt government, and thinking that way is always the only solution, should be negotiable. I don't really think that we can "shop" our way out of this - sacrefices have to be made if we are to survive. Which reminds me, I have to go and check the air pressure in my tires!

I seriously wish I could get one of those tire gauges without having to make a contribution to the RNC. The tire gauge is a great symbol for the energy conservancy policy, and the writing on it, "Obama Energy Policy" isn't actually inflammatory, in my mind. I'd be proud to use it. Another RNC attempt to put Obama down that slaps them in the face.
