NO. No No No And NO!
This has got to stop. No way, no how is THIS going to happen.
CNN's Dana Bash reports that McCain officials are "trying to negotiate with the Obama campaign and the presidential debate commission" to change next Thursday's planned vice presidential debate into a McCain-Obama affair. The VP debate would be postponed to another date.

SFX: slide whistle descending in pitch.
Announcer: The sound you're hearing is the plummeting of McCain's credibility. Stay tuned. This is just the beginning.

I live within 30 miles of Oxford, Misssissippi. I just stopped by the liquor store to pick up some livations and the topic there was the possiblity of the debate being postponed. Everyone is pissed that McCain is even talking about postponing the debate. I was surpised because I thought these guys were dyed-in-wool Republicans. They all agree that McCain looks like a chicken shit.

Andrew Mullins, special assistant to university Chancellor Robert Khayat, told ABC News that the Ole Miss campus has been transformed to accommodate the candidates and the press. Road blocks are in place on campus and in the community and the debate television set for the candidates has already been constructed. He said the university has spent roughly five and half million dollars getting ready for the debate.

Simply put, the McCain campaign doesn't want ANY VP debate. If McCain succeeds in having Friday's Presidental debate cancelled, it will become necessary to reschedule the VP debate, and because time is short, it's likely they would cancel that. I think this whole thing screams of cowardice on McCain's part.

I'm certainly glad no one seems to be going for McLame's "things are too serious to debate the direction this country will take in the next four years" idea.
1864 had a contentious presidential election. And it wasn't despite there being a GODDAMN CIVIL WAR going on, it was BECAUSE there was a goddamn civil war going on, and the two candidates had very different views on that vital issue.

Hey I has idea! Why not have the VP debate this friday and then the P debate when the VPs were susposed to? Since Palin, as gov. of AK can't get in on the capital hill debate.

Why not have Palin debate in McCain's place. She is supposed to be his replacement in all things presidential.
