GOTV This Weekend

CLICK and GOTV!

If you're phone-shy, they have plenty of other things for you to do. But go.

No On 8 Finally Uses "Prohibits the Right" Line

Saw this last night in primetime. For some time, we've been underscoring the chilling language of Prop 8 which starts with the words "Prohibits right of same-sex couples..." and now it's in the commercial. Nice.

Foot In His Mouth? More Like a Boot Up His Ass

One of McCain's five former SoS' got a timeout. Lawrence Eagleburger backpedals so fast, he ends up back in 1988.

Get Your War On!

NSFW, so crank it up.

Bodybuilding Jokes

Schwarzenegger is doing lame girlyman gags in Ohio for McCain. Yawn. Same freakin' material he used four years ago for Bush.

SNL

It turns out McCain will be on the Saturday night show (hosted by uh-oh, Ben Affleck), virtually erasing the notion of Obama doing his make-up show from the week of Hurricane Ike. But wait - there's still one more SNL election show on Monday night...

Alarm Bells Ringing in McCain's Home State

How embarrassing is this? McCain has to race to Arizona Monday night to stop the bleeding. He obviously would rather be anywhere else.

Ohio Slipping Away from McCain

Infwinging On Her Constitutional Wights?

It's important to leave Sarah Palin's constitutional rights sacrosanct while she plans how to make our irrelevant. Trying to affiliate Obama with an American-born professor with a scary Middle Eastern name isn't negative, I guess.

Is it unconstitutional to tell her to shut the hell up?

ABC News' Steven Portnoy reports: In a conservative radio interview that aired in Washington, D.C. Friday morning, Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin said she fears her First Amendment rights may be threatened by "attacks" from reporters who suggest she is engaging in a negative campaign against Barack Obama.

Palin told WMAL-AM that her criticism of Obama's associations, like those with 1960s radical Bill Ayers and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, should not be considered negative attacks.  Rather, for reporters or columnists to suggest that it is going negative may constitute an attack that threatens a candidate's free speech rights under the Constitution, Palin said.

"If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations," Palin told host Chris Plante, "then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."

Kinda interesting that ABC News is ratting out what was said on an ABC radio station - even if they're owned by separate companies now.

Kristol

He really is a retarded douchenozzle. With all due respect.

The NRSC's Galaxy of Stars!

Guess Fred Dryer was too busy that day to join the ragging on Al Franken...

Okay, okay. John Ratzenberger's in every Pixar film and I like him...

Swiftkids For Truth Go After Biden

T. Boone Pickens is definitely behind this cruel and ugly 527. They must have their allowances suspended NOW.

What Mike Goldfarb Wasn't Saying

You've seen the video. And it's become pretty obvious to me that Goldfarb was referring to Rev. Wright as the other "anti-Semite" Obama was running around with. Now, why he didn't come out and say it is kind of a mystery. He may not know if McCain gave his campaign the green light to say Wright's name (Palin did within the last week).

Or, plain and simple, maybe Goldfarb flaked on Wright's name. These knuckleheads have so much slander rattling around in their skulls, it's quite possible this goon couldn't find it in that pile of yak shit which replaced his brain.

Obama, Olbermann, Maddow Win the Night Big

This is about as close to two million in the 25-54 demographic as they've ever come. And tonight, Rachel interviewed Obama, so tonight's numbers should be interesting. Last night (in thousands):

Hundreds of thousands of viewers who watched the Barack Obama commercial on one of the broadcast networks switched to MSNBC at 8:30. Obama pulled in 3.5 million Total Viewers on MSNBC, the only cable news network to air the infomercial. An abbreviated Countdown with Keith Olbermann at 8:30pmET brought in an additional 688,000 Total Viewers. FNC's The O'Reilly Factor still won the 8pmET hour in Total Viewers, while Obama/Olbermann came in first in the demo.

33.6 million people watched the Obama ad across seven networks, most on NBC (9.8 million). CBS was next with 8.6 million and FOX drew 7.1 million.

Back on cable, MSNBC came in first in the A25-54 demo at 9pmET with The Rachel Maddow Show beating Hannity & Colmes and Larry King Live (with guest Sen. John McCain).

Gee, But McCain Might Get Mad At Him If He Does

Wouldn't he? Well, then, Barack Obama, COME ON DOWN! Richard Wolffe:

Obama’s senior aides are intrigued by several late polls that show a narrowing of the presidential contest in Arizona. Most recently, on Tuesday a Cronkite-Eight poll (named for Arizona State University's journalism school and the local PBS channel) showed the state a statistical tie, with the Arizona senator just 2 points ahead of Obama. That poll suggests Arizona is too close to call, with Obama making significant gains among women and independents.

The campaign is now seriously examining a late surge into the state. That may include ramping up TV advertising, on-the-ground staff or even deploying the candidate to stop there. Obama is scheduled to make a Western swing late this week, making an Arizona visit possible.

Rachel Interviews Obama

9pm ET, 6pm PT tonight on MSNBC. She's already arrived. She's now established. A tiny preview...

Rashid Khalidi

He's got a scaaaaary name. That's about it.

And, OH MY GOD, check out this ultramaroon. They really are trying to torpedo their own camapign. No question.

The Vet Who Didn't Vet

Neat little vid...

Darn the Luck

Our jury group was released without a trial. Shucks. That was such a lovely courthouse, too. Dark. Free of amenities. And what a town! (It was Bellflower...and one of the first establishments I visited when I moved here shut their doors last spring. Double damn!)

Our Next President Might Actually Know the Constitution

In case you didn't know, Barack Obama spent ten years teaching constitutional law. He had the opportunity to have a discussion with Brian WIlliams about the constitution in selecting justices to the Supreme Court. It must've been refreshing for WIlliams to talk to someone who actually knows what it is.

2-1/2 Hour Wait for Early Voting in SoCal

(Watching the teevee in the jurors' room) That's what KCAL-TV just reported. The early voting location in Norwalk, CA has a line around the block which is around a two hour wait, then another half hour once they're inside. The good news is very few voters are being deterred and kind of enjoying the experience.

Poll Pot

They do drive us nuts. Verbatim from Political Wire's Bloggregator entry:

Fox News Poll: McCain Closes Gap With Obama
A new Fox News Poll shows the presidential race has tightened with Sen. Barack Obama ..
CBS/NYT Poll: Obama Maintains Double Digit Lead

A "reliable source" tells Ben Smith that the CBS/ New York Times poll due out later t..

When I'm President, Kids WON'T Be Pulled Out of Class to Attend Hack Rallies

Um...I'd be pretty pissed if I were the parent of one of them. Use my child as a political prop? No way, old man.

A local school district official confirmed after the event that of the 6,000 people estimated by the fire marshal to be in attendance this morning, more than 4,000 were bused in from schools in the area. The entire 2,500-student Defiance School District was in attendance, the official said, in addition to at least three other schools from neighboring districts, one of which sent 14 buses.

Heh. I Said "Duty"

On a big ol' lunch break from jury duty in a strange town. The vending machines? Completely empty. But there is wi-fi. There're about 20 people in the jury pool recycling bin, so my chances of serving are pretty huge. And such a lovely venue. I'm taking this opportunity to drive out and stock up on bottled water and food before heading back, since there isn't any to be had in that zip code.

But really, I'm proud to serve, your honor. I am I am I am.

Coleman Continues His Addiction to Suing His Way Into Office

Those trial lawyers are evil until you're about to lose your senate seat.

Sen. Norm Coleman announced on Thursday that he was filing a lawsuit against his Democratic opponent Al Franken and the Franken campaign over what he deemed defamation of character.

If the move seems dramatic, it shouldn't. This is now the fourth time that the Minnesota Republican has filed a suit late in the course of his runs for office.

During the gubernatorial race in 1998, Coleman filed and later dropped a complaint against his Democratic rival Hubert Humphrey III over an issue of unfair campaign practices. In 2002, the state's Republican party (operating, ostensibly, on Coleman's behalf), filed a complaint against then Senator Paul Wellstone, accusing him of inciting "union thugs" to rough up a GOP cameraman. And, again in 2002, the Coleman campaign filed a separate suit against Wellstone for distorting his stance on social security.
